of Christmas lights, protests & police

There is tension in the air

It stifles the holiday cheer

The lights are bright

But the chants are louder

“We can’t breathe!”

more than just aches

more than just physical

more than just temporary

intangible yet unmistakable

agony and brokenness linger

your sting, too well I know

relief, I anticipate

April Showers

Rain all morning.

Rain all afternoon,

And likely more rain

throughout the night.

They say,

April showers bring

May flowers.

Needless to say,

I will be expecting

lush and bright

May flowers this year.

Cold Without You

Buried under multiple layers of covers
Adorned in my thickest snuggly socks
Yet the cold I feel remains untamed
It emanates from my feet, and creeps
To every inch of my body, and seemingly
Manages to penetrate my core.
I can almost feel my heart ice over.
Cold without you
Cold without your feet rubbing mine
Cold without the heart-melting love I feel when your gentle hands glide sensually over the contours of my bare frame
Cold without the passion that abounds when we embrace
Cold without you tonight

Broken and created anew
A process of change
From lackluster to polished facade
Decrepit to exuberant vitality
Hollow emptiness to overflowing abundance
Not in a flash
But gradual transformation
