Scene in New York City

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”- Terry Pratchett

Sunflower Kind of Day

Suppose you went to the farmer’s market and could only buy one thing – what would it be? I’d choose flowers without hesitation. And that’s just what I did today.

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. That’s what sunflowers do.” – Helen Keller

Travelers on a Journey

Almost five years ago on the first day of my first job after graduating from college, a very eloquent orientation speaker read this poem (which I just now accidentally found online) to a group of eager, excited and perhaps secretly nervous new employees. I remember thinking ‘wow, these are powerful words’ and feeling challenged to positively impact my “fellow travelers” – not only at work but also in my family, friendships and greater community. I had the same sentiments today after reading this poem. Frankly, I can do better in spreading happiness and love. What about you?

Still of Morning

I had a rare early morning today. I took a walk to the women and children’s center where I volunteered to help prepare and serve breakfast this morning, and along the way I could see sunrise colors glimmering in the sky. It was quite a refreshing way to start the day. Actually inspired me to get out of bed earlier so I can experience both the sunrise and early morning’s serenity more often.
